Jeep model NP231 transfer cases have one glaring weakness. They use a sliding fork on the transfer case rear output shaft instead of having a fixed fork and drive shaft with sliding splines.

This design works well on the street, but once you lift your Jeep and install larger tires on it, the stress on the sliding fork or rear output shaft is often too much.
